CAN YOU TRUST HERBAL PRODUCTS?

It wasn't too long ago that if you wanted herbs, you pretty much had to grow them yourself, but today herbs and herbal formulas can be self-prescribed.
It’s great that people are recognizing the healing potential of medicinal plants. The demand for herbal medicine is growing as herbal alternatives to over the counter products are becoming more popular. The increasing popularity of herbal medicines has lead to the stores being flooded with herbal products. So how do you know what products to buy?
Advertisements, snippets in magazines, the internet, or maybe a friend tells you about what a herb might offer, the truth is that much of the information the public receives about herbs is based on casual observation rather than scientific analysis. It’s easy enough to go to your local pharmacy to buy your herbal remedy, but are your choices make for the right reason? Buying a product because you enjoyed the advertisement, like the packaging or basing your decision on price can result in a poor outcome. You should be basing your purchase on quality.
Ask yourself this:
·       Can I trust the company and the products they are producing?
·       Where did they source their raw materials?
·       What is the quality of the raw materials they are using?
·       Does the product contain an important active ingredient?
·       How are these ingredients measured?
·       What is the concentration of the active ingredient?
·       Does the product contain chemical, metal compounds or unwanted fillers and binders?
·       Where were the herbs cultivated and who cultivated them?
·       What processes where used to make them into medicine?
·       Are the preparations stable or are they prone to oxidation and can they become rancid?
